Stop This Train (I Want to Get Off and Go Home Again)
My Son Rylan turned 21 a few days ago and my daughter is getting married in a few months. Time, where has it gone? John Mayer is one of my favorite singer songwriters. On his Continuum Album he has a song that has come to have meaning to me as I have gotten older. The song is called "Stop This Train". The lyrics describe a young (rising in fame) John Mayer who is feeling the pressure of the world and he dreams of going back home to a more simple life but the train he is on is moving too fast, he can't stop the train. He sings "STOP THIS TRAIN, I WANNA GET OFF AND GO HOME AGAIN".

As we get older the speed of the train keeps increasing. I'm sure John Mayer's train was a rocket as his stardom rose. Everyone wanted a piece of him and the pressure must have been overwhelming. John Mayer uses the song to describe his understanding that his life is changing, he is getting older and taking on the responsibilities life brings. He also sees his parents aging and does not want them to go.
"Had a talk with my old man, said help me understand. He said, turned 68, you'll renegotiate. Don't for a minute change the place you are in and don't think I couldn't understand. I tried my hand. John honestly we'll never stop this train.

I'm 60, my train has been on the track for a while now and when I hear John Mayer's song it's not John's voice that I hear anymore it's his Father. Please train don't stop, I don't want to get off yet.
